Husic
Palm Terrace Cab Sauv 2005
(Napa Valley)
Reg. $74.99 Special $49.99
Only 300 Cases Produced
Only 54 btls available at Wine Maestro
Harvested entirely from the Husic Estate in early October, 2005, this lovely Cabernet shows a lighter, softer side of the Husic Estate. The Palm Terrace Cabernet is made with the same attention to detail, high quality French Oak barrels and care in handling showered upon the Estate Cabernet. The aromas display an inviting array of red fruits in a simpler, more fruit-focused package. Slightly more refined than the fuller-bodied Estate Cabernet, this clean, lively, fruit-driven Cabernet is designed for early enjoyment. "Delicious!"

Harvey Steiman, WS 11/09 Smells like Viognier, with all the floral and sweet lychee fruit up front, then lightens up in the mouth, with the freshness and pizzazz of Pinot Gris. A lovely balance. Drink now.

... "absolutely delicious, w/ just a bit of chalky minerality that enhances this wine's refreshing quality and makes it perfect for most summer cuisine, particularly salmon or any other fish off the grill"- JV

Historic Cellar Collectible? Jos. Phelps Insignia '07
Futures

Robert Parker
97-100 pts.
(highest rating ever from the Wine Advocate or Wine Spectator, including '02 "Wine of the Year", for this California classic)
The 2007 Insignia (a 13,500-case blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot) offers a seamless introduction to this flagship cuvée. Its inky/purple color is followed by aromas of crème de cassis, incense, crushed rocks, lead pencil shavings, cedar and spice box. It possesses a massive, opulent mouthfeel, serious tannins, and no hard edges. This stunning effort should hit its peak in 5-8 years, and last 40 years. I would not be surprised to see it become the greatest Insignia to date and close in on a perfect score.
In case you think the aging curves I have described are unrealistically long, I have the Joseph Phelps regular Cabernets from the mid-seventies as well as the Insignias in my cellar, and those wines are still drinking beautifully at 30 years of age. Todayʼs wines are better made. (This was a barrel tasting. Parker's bottle rating could go higher.)
